Marsai Martin and Miles Brown Relationship:
Black-ish is a sitcom on ABC starring Marsai Martin and Miles Brown that centers around the family of an upper-middle class African American family living in Los Angeles. The show premiered in 2016 to great success and critical acclaim. It stars Marsai Martin, Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Laurence Fishburne, Yara Shahidi and Marcus Scribner. With a strong cast of actors it was easy to see why it was such a success but what made Black-ish so different? Well it’s worth noting that back when the show first started out there were many critics who called it “dysfunctional” or “racist”. This is why it’s interesting to see how much this show has changed over time.
The show was created by Kenya Barris who also created the show Grown-ish. He wanted to make a show that would reflect his life as an African American man growing up in Los Angeles. The show is very similar to Grown-ish in that it’s also centered on an African American family living in LA. There are many differences between the two shows as well. Black-ish is the first sitcom to center on a black family on network television since 1995’s Family Matters, which was canceled after four seasons due to low ratings and criticism of it being “racist”. Black-ish, however, has done much better and has become a hit with critics and audiences alike due to its great family comedy and more realistic portrayal of African Americans from upper middle class families living in Los Angeles.
The cast consists of Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Yara Shahidi, Miles Brown, Marsai Martin, Laurence Fishburne, Marcus Scribner, and Jennifer Coolidge. The show has nominated for many awards, such as NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Comedy Series, and has won five awards.
The show centers on Dre Johnson (Anderson), an African American man who is the father of four children, Jack (Miles Brown), Diane (Ross), Marcus (Scribner), and Zoey (Shahidi). He is married to Rainbow (Coolidge) who is a stay-at-home mother. The show follows Dre’s life as he tries to raise his family in the upper-middle class neighborhood of Hancock Park, Los Angeles with his children.
The show also focuses on his struggles with raising them in the upper-middle class area that he lives in while also trying to deal with being a single father while also dealing with racial stereotypes by other people around him. He often gets into arguments with Jack over his son’s behavior or being disrespectful to others but at other times he tries to teach his children about respecting others and being good to each other.
