If your teen is graduating from high school, you’re likely planning a graduation party. These parties can be a lot of fun, an exciting event to cap off their high school career. However, you don’t want to wait until the last minute to start planning it. In fact, 48% of event planners say they plan events six to 12 months out. Even if it isn’t in your lifestyle to plan ahead of time, you’ll want to do so for a graduation party.
Know What You’re Doing
If you wait too long, you’re going to have to throw together a party. This can be fun, but it doesn’t give you a clear idea of what you’ll be doing at the event. By starting the plans early, you and your teen can get a clear idea of how the party will look. You can brainstorm fun ideas and decide if they are something you can feasibly do. For instance, you might want to do something with golf carts. Golf carts are only allowed on roads with a speed limit of 35 miles per hour in the communities where they are considered street-legal. This is something you’ll have to know and keep in mind if you opt to have the party at a golf course or just rent out carts for fun. By planning early, you can get all the information you need before you actually have to put any money down.
Leave Room for Changes
Even the best plans will have to be changed. If it isn’t in your lifestyle to go with the flow, starting early will allow you to accept those changes and find a solution. For instance, you might not know the needs of the students your teen will invite to the party. If they go to a Catholic school, you can’t assume they’ll all be Catholic. In fact, 18.7% of Catholic school students are not Catholic. Additionally, you may have to deal with family situations, emergencies, or financial changes that will impact the party. If you plan it out in advance, you’ll have plenty of time to fix what needs to be fixed.
Get Better Deals
The farther out you start planning, the better your chances of getting good deals on everything involved in the party. If you want to save some money while still giving your teen a lavish lifestyle for the day, starting early will help you do so. You’ll be able to wait for sales and shop discounts. Often, if you try to schedule something at the last minute, the price will be higher for the exact same experience or product. So start your shopping early. This will get you the best party for your budget.
Involve Your Teen
Your teen is going to be extremely busy at the end of high school. They’re going to be figuring out their future, wrapping up their academics, and spending time with their friends. However, they’re going to want to be involved in planning their party. If you start early, you can involve them in the entire process. This will give you time to schedule your planning among everything else your teen has to do. While you don’t want to give your teen full responsibility for planning their graduation party, you do want to give them a measure of involvement and freedom to figure it all out with you. Plus, it can be a bonding experience during a very tumultuous time in their life.
Even if party planning isn’t in your usual lifestyle, you’re going to need to make good choices as you plan your teen’s graduation party. If you wait until the last minute to do your planning, you’re likely to get a less enjoyable, more expensive party. Start planning early and you’ll have a lot more freedom and options as you go through the planning process.
